The 30th Annual Meeting of DESERT FISHES COUNCIL (DFC) will be held 12-15 NOVEMBER 1998 (TH-SUN) at Wahweap Lodge, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Page, AZ. The local committee is chaired by Leo Lentsch (Utah Division of Wildlife Resources). Registration will begin WED evening (11th); an informal mixer is also scheduled in the Lodge bar. TH (12th) begins 3 days of technical and agency reports, posters, and other societal activities. The DFC banquet will be FR evening (13th), while a field trip to the Paria River is scheduled for SUN (15th).
HOTEL - DFC has reserved rooms ($45., single or double occupancy), and receives a discount based on numbers of rooms rented. Therefore, we ask that you please reside at the Wahweap Lodge. Call (1-520-645- 2433); identify yourself as a member of DFC (use CONFIRMATION NO. 409763 to make reservations). If you are looking for a roommate to share room costs, you might want to post a note on the Bulletin Board.
TRAVEL to and from Page, in the far northeast corner of Arizona near Glen Canyon dam, which impounds Lake Powell, is generally easiest by private or rented vehicle, though shuttle flights are available from Phoenix and Flagstaff, as are car rentals. Those interested in car pooling might find the Bulletin Board a convenient way to make connections.
A MEETING REGISTRATION FORM must be received by the deadline to avoid paying late registration rates, to permit acceptance of abstracts, and generally to assist the local committee with planning. Note that registration is also more costly for non-members. Join DFC now. Cancellations prior to November 1 will result in a refund of all monies paid.
PRESENTATIONS of both oral papers and posters relevant to the mission of the Desert Fishes Council are solicited. No paper or poster will be accepted and scheduled without receipt of 1. correctly formatted abstract, 2. pre-registration, and 3. payment of dues for calendar year 1998 on or before the deadline. Space in the program is limited and order of receipt may determine acceptance.
ONLY DFC MEMBERS MAY PRESENT PAPERS, which must be relevant to DFC's mission. Oral presentations are 15 minutes (including questions). Each speaker is limited to one presentation; poster presentations are encouraged. Abstracts must be RECEIVED in electronic format on or before 1 September (TU). Space is limited; order of receipt will determine acceptance and scheduling of papers.
