Abstract

Robert Rush Miller, 1916-2003, is best known as an ichthyologist and conservationist, primarily due to his work on fishes and aquatic habitats in the southweste rn U.S. and Mexico. Several presentations in this symposium to honor Bob Miller will detail his research career and his significant contributions to the field. On this occasion, I would like to focus on Bob’s early life history and the influences that helped shape him and his career. I would also like to present some other aspects of his life, such as his love and talent for classical music, ability to whistle entire compositions by Tchaikovsky, fanatic devotion to University of Michigan athletics, and a few personal, definable idiosyncrasies.

La historia natural de Robert Rush Miller y otros aspectos de su vida Robert (Bob) Rush Miller, 1916-2003, es mejor conocido como ictiólogo y conservacionista, debido principalmente por su trabajo con peces y hábitats acuáticos en el suroeste de los Estados Unidos de América y México. Para honrar a Bob Miller, varias de las present aciones en este simposio dirán con detalle aspectos de su carrera como investigador y sus significativas contri buciones en esta área de estudio. En esta ocasión, me enfocaré en las etapas tempranas de la vida de Bob y las influencias que le ayudaron a moldear tanto su persona como su carrera. Quisiera también presentar algunos otros aspectos de su vida tales como su amor y talento por la música clásica, su habilidad para silbar composiciones enteras de Tchaikovsky, su fanática devoción por los deportes en la Universdad de Michigan, y unas cuantas idiosincrasias personales y definidas.
