Abstract

The Sonoyta mud turtle (Kinosternon sonoriense longifemorale) is an endangered endemic species in the rio Sonoyta basin of southern Arizona and northern Mexico In 2017, we began using radio tracking to monitor the survival and movement of individual Sonoyta mud turtles in the Agua Dulce reach of the Rio Sonoyta We also have made estimates of the total population size in the Agua Dulce reach, which is the last relatively natural reach of the Rio Sonoyta that supports perennial pools We will present preliminary findings of our tracking and population size studies and suggest future directions for monitoring and management of this endangered turtle
