African Desert Fishes

Dr. Jim Cambray (J.Cambray_at_ru.ac.za) in South Africa is assembling information on desert fishes of Africa for publication here. Please contact him using the link above if your are interested in assisting.

Dr. Cambray is involved in a very interesting discussion about alien or exotic fishes. His essays would be of interest to many in other countries who deal with these issues, as might other information on African biodiversity from the Albany Museum and it's Ichthyology division, including this beautiful African biodiversity poster (100 k jpeg) by artist Maggie Newman.

The first of the African species accounts are for:

  • Barbus anoplus

  • Barbus capensis

  • Pseudobarbus asper

  • Pseudobarbus quathlambae

  • Sandelia bainsii, an Anabantid for which the city of Grahamstown established a nature reserve.

  • More to come.
