English - The Cuatrociénegas Web site was created in 1995 as part of the Desert Fishes Council Web, which is maintained by Dr. Dean Hendrickson, Curator of Ichthyology at the Texas Memorial Museum (TMM) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT). It's objective is to provide basic information on the valley and its flora and fauna for all interested persons and information relevant to the now large community of researchers with projects in the valley.

TMM sponsors the Cuatrociénegas and DFC Web sites by providing computer facilities and server space, as well as a bit of Hendrickson's time (though most work on this site is currently done at home). Many Desert Fishes Council members (primarily Dr. W. L. Minckley) contributed their photos and text in the early days of the website and Hendrickson and Peter Unmack spent long hours improving early versions of the site by scanning many photos and writing html. Shortly after the website was created, Desert Fishes Council donated computers to the city of Cuatro Ciénegas for use in conservation-related activities. In 1999 the Northeast Mexico Program of The Nature Conservancy contributed to this web site by means of a small grant which allowed Hendrickson to hire Troy Davis to work many more hours than he was paid for (in peanuts) scanning more text and images, this time primarily some of the key early literature. Troy also got some volunteer help with proofing of text by members of the UT Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology.  In 2004, with support from a U.S-Mexico Borderlands Program grant from the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration ( CONAHEC), the website was redesigned and  expanded by Jack Siegrist in conjunction with the APFFCC office. Jack also added plant pages and keys. The work that Jack began was finished in 2005 by Charlene Zvolanek who added new pages contributed by others (on turtles by Jennifer Howeth and Suzanne McGaugh). Hendrickson worked with Suzanne McGaugh and others on the Arundo pages (and the page on non-native species), and Hendrickson added information on the first meeting of Cuatro Ciénegas researchers (in August 2004) and the new bibliography. Charlene created the new interface to the email lists that Hendrickson created after the first researchers meeting in hopes that they might faciliate communications among researchers and the general public.

Juan Miguel Artigas of San Luis Potosí is gratefully acknowledged for his volunteer translations of some Cuatrociénegas web files in the early days of the pages. In the future we hope to increase usefullness of this site to local residents and researchersby expanding our bilingual coverage with additional translations of materials found here (we welcome volunteer translators).

More recently, Lucas Horton of University of Texas at Austin IT services, contributed global repairs of the web pages, fixing problems with the side navigation bar. This considerable effort is most appreciated.

Epañol - El sitio web de Cuatrociénegas forma parte de la Web del Consejo de Peces del Desierto (DFC), mantenido por Dr. Dean Hendrickson, el Curador de Ictiología en el Texas Memorial Museum (TMM) de La Universidad de Tejas en Austin (UT). El objetivo de las páginas es hacer disponible a todos los interesados información básico sobre la fauna y flora del valle y su conservación, y además proveer información relevante para el ahora gran número de investigadores con proyectos en el valle.

TMM patrocina el sitio de Cuatrociénegas y sitios web de DFC, proporcionando la computadora las facilidades y el espacio en el servidor, así como un poco de tiempo de Hendrickson.
